Star Dancer of the Paris Opera
Élisabeth Platel, born in Paris, is a ballet star of the Opéra national de Paris. Since 2004, Élisabeth Platel has been director of the dance school at the Opéra national de Paris. After studying dance at the Conservatoire de Saint-Germain-en-Laye, Élisabeth Platel entered the Conservatoire de Paris in the class of Christiane Vaussard where she won a first prize in 1975. Hired in 1976 in the ballet corps of the Paris Opera, Élisabeth Platel was promoted subject in 1978 and won the silver medal in the same year at the Varna International Ballet Competition. First dancer in 1979, she obtained her first roles as soloist and was chosen by Maurice Béjart to be Jean Babilée’s partner in Life (June 1979).
On December 23, 1981, Élisabeth Platel was named star while she played the role of Giselle for the first time. She is entrusted with all the great roles of the classical repertoire. Rudolf Nureyev also makes him his regular dancer. On a world tour with Manuel Legris and Nicolas Le Riche, she toured the international stages in 2000, a year after her farewell on the stage of the Paris Opera, in the title role of La Sylphide.
