Jean-Hugues Féray

International Principal Dancer

Jean-Hugues Féray was born in Caen in Normandy and began dancing at the age of 9.

The following year he returned to the Paris Opera School of Dance and then to the Conservatoire National Supérieur in Paris where in 1989 he received a first Prize unanimously from the jury in the Class of Mr Cyril Atanassoff.

In 1990, Jean-Hugues was hired by Rudolf Nureyev to participate in his version of Cinderella at the San Carlo Theatre in Naples.

In 1991 he joined the National Ballet of Nancy under the direction of Pierre Lacotte where he remained for 7 years. It will have the chance to be distributed in many early roles. The company will tour all over the world, especially in the Moscow Bolshoi invited by Vladimir Vasiliev. Jean-Hugues will dance the variation of the Harlequin in «La Somnambule» of Balanchine and «Soirée de Fête» among others.

In 1998 Jean-Hugues goes to the United States where he is hired as Principal at the «Ballet Florida» where he will dance all the first roles with Choreographers and Directors of the New York City Ballet, San Francisco Ballet, Houston Ballet etc.

In 1999 he returned to France after being hired at the Ballet National de Marseille by Marie-Claude Pietragalla, then returned to the «Ballet Florida» from 2002 to 2009.

In the summer of 2009 he opened his Ecole de Danse in Florida (Paris Ballet and Dance and Paris Ballet Conservatory) which is now one of the most renowned in the region and which has about 130 students.

In 2017 he created an International Internship with his school at the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts in West Palm Beach, Florida, where he had the pleasure of inviting Charles Jude as a teacher.

Jean-Hugues is delighted to return to France this summer to teach at the Stage International de Danse in Arcachon.

Jean-Hugues Féray est né à Caen en Normandie et commence la danse à l’âge de 9 ans. L’année suivante il rentre à l’école de Danse de l’Opera de Paris puis au Conservatoire National Supérieur de Paris où il obtient en 1989 un premier Prix à l’unanimité du jury dans la Classe de Monsieur Cyril Atanassoff.

En 1990, Jean-Hugues est engagé par Rudolf Noureev pour participer à sa version de Cendrillon au Théâtre San Carlo de Naples. Ensuite il est engagé au Ballet National de Marseille sous la Direction de Roland Petit.

En 1991 il est engagé au Ballet National de Nancy par Pierre Lacotte où il restera 7 ans. Il aura la chance d’y être distribué dans de nombreux premiers rôles. La compagnie tournera dans le monde entier, notamment au Bolchoï de Moscou invité par Vladimir Vasiliev. Jean-Hugues y dansera la variation de l’Harlequin dans « La Somnambule » de Balanchine et « Soir de Fête » entre autres.

En 1998 Jean-Hugues part aux Etats-Unis où il est engagé comme Principal au Ballet Florida où il dansera tous les premiers rôles avec des Chorégraphes et Directeurs du New-York City Ballet, San Francisco Ballet, Houston Ballet etc.
